Power Down
Just days before I started walking from Boston, we had an early snowstorm hit New England. Too early. Because the leaves hadn't yet fallen from the trees, when they froze over they acted as deadweight and brought branches and trees (and power lines) down all over Massachusetts and Connecticut. In Connecticut, about 850,000 out of 1.2 million homes lost electricity. This big branch hanging precariously from the lines is a familiar sight along the road.
