EUReport
BRUSSELS 19 JUNE:____After the final Irish delegation press-conference of the summer European Council, the Irish Leader Cowen reported on meetings over the previous two-days of negotiations with his EU26 partners.

After the final press-conference I sent my report, collected my equipment and headed out of the Justus Lipsius building to get the metro back to Grande Central.

Outside, the sun lay in wait : relentless.
It was hot : one of those city-heat, no-wind, June afternoons. As I passed the last of the police security cordon that surround the Consilium buildings entirely, on the way to the metro station heading down Rue de La Loi I knew it was going to be one of those jam-packed Friday@5PM suffocating metro-rides. Instead of joining-in on the rush-hour, I decided instead to seek out some shade, take a rest off my feet. It was a long way home yet.
I could just as easily get the next train home to the Netherlands one hour later. I stopped-off to sit under the trees in a beautiful, yet somewhat noisy, park in Malbeek adjacent to the European Commission buildings on Schuman.
After listening to der Führer der irischen, I thought it high time to stand still beside it all for a minute, take it all in -- there's so many press releases in those three days -- and close the week's work in Brussels with a après conseil presser of my own.
This was that moment.
