Last night Jess and I went to see our friends' band play at Beatniks in Worcester. Sorry to Guy, the drummer (he didn't quite make this photo)....

Yesterday was Jen's birthday and we took her to Buca Di Beppo's in Shrewsbury. This was her birthday cake. We got to help her out with it.

Tonight I met up with Luke and Anna and visited the Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum for its Third Thursday Program. We were covertly scouting ideas for the Worcester Art Museum's Third Thursday. The ISG is a pretty unique place. This was my first time here and it's unlike any museum I've been to.

One last picture from Monday's Marathon. This is my med team, which was located in the first zone after the finish line (you can see in the background above our heads). Despite the heat (upper 80s) our work was steady but not overwhelming. We did have a few vomiters.

I volunteered for the 116th Annual Boston Marathon today. I was on the medical crew supervising runners after they came across thje finish line, making sure no one crashed once they stopped running. Every Marathon has a ton of cool stories. I met a guy who was marking his 50th marathon, got to chat with a bunch of racers from Japan, saw Team Hoyt, watched a blind runner cross the finish line, translated enough to realize a runner who only spoke only Spanish was saying he was in respiratory distress (uh oh), and ran into a fellow Med Crew RN from the 3Day Walk for Breast Cancer. But one of the most interesting stories was from Ruth and Tom. I was standing on the corner by the med tent, quickly wolfing down my complementary Peanut Butter and Jelly lunch before the runners came, when a man behind me asked how my sandwich was. Uh, good, I said. Great, my wife and I made that last night. At first I laughed and thought he was kidding, but Ruth and Tom explained every year they make all the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the volunteers and runners.The night before the race, they sit down and spread 5000 (yes, five thousand) PB and J's. They've been doing it every year since 1988. That's a lot sandwiches. It's cool little stories like this that make me want to come back next time.

TEST

On Day Two of my Connecticut Adventure I went to breakfast with my friend Tammi. Then I spent too much time shopping for used books in Meridan. I met my friend Colleen for lunch and we drove to the Blue Back district in West Hartford for lunch at a kaiten sushi restaurant. I hadn't had conveyor belt sushi since I left Japan in 2004. (Between this place and Louis' Lunch in New Haven, it's not fair that CT has all the cool places to eat.) After Colleen left I walked over to the West Hartford Library where I prepared the White House photos for printing (they should be ready to mail out in one week).
