Lost Squirrel
This is the baby squirrel which fell off the roof of our office building during the rainstorm this afternoon. My co-worker found him lying flat out in a puddle, looking like a wet rat. We figure him to be under five weeks because he still hasn't opened his eyes. We wrapped him in a towel and put him outside in a dry box, and after a few hours his mother still hadn't come to find him. I drove him to Tufts Vetinary School after work. On primary assessment at the wildlife clinic, it looked like nothing was broken or injured during the three-story fall. He'll be turned over for rehabilition by a licensed volunteer and when he's ready he'll be released into the wild. Actually now that I think of it, he's a pretty lucky little guy.... since it's already almost September, he'll probably get to stay in the warm rehab home all winter.
Mary Jane, who had the box right outside her window, named him "Squeaky" because every once in a while she'd hear him squeak out for his mom or for food. He was pretty loud.
