#BodaciousSpacePirates ep8: finally! Things are starting to get crazy. #anime 

I have been a very patient man with this show. I applauded the show's
attention to detail, its atmosphere and interesting characters. But
even I was beginning to wonder when this show was gonna get wild and
crazy. It hasn't happened yet, but it looks like the training wheels
are quickly coming off. An estranged princess and her infighting
nation seem to be a good place to start.

When the show last left off, we were left wondering what this little
girl (though it would have been more fun if it was an alien) was going
to want from the ship. Turns out things are straight forward and
confusing at the same time. After Marika and the crew convinced the
stowaway who she was and that she had rightful authority they were
treated to the surprise of a very beautiful and beautifully dressed
little girl, Princess Serenity.

I'm a little confused as to what's going on, but it looks like in
order to keep things going smoothly the Princess is put into Marika's
school as a middle school student. Everyone knows that she's there
and that's supposed to help protect her. She also gives the crew the
task of finding some golden hidden ghost ship. Though she doesn't
give them any reason to find it. She is a princess so I guess she
gets that much at least. She's a big hit with everyone at her new
school.

The crew then gets a job that may involve Serenity's hunt for the
golden ghost ship and are tasked with meeting a ship from her homeland
at the edge of their system. The confusing part comes when they
discover that the ship is in battle with a bunch of other ships from
the same nation! Looks like we have warring factions here. And I'm
sure that none of this will get sorted out until after this battle.

I'm looking forward to seeing Marika handle a real battle in a real
pirate ship under genuine stress. The fact that princess is on board
could be a blessing and a curse at the same time.

Ultimately, what I liked about this episode boiled down to how excited
I was about what the next episode may bring. I'd sincerely like to
enjoy this show for more than nuance and potential though. I'd like
this show to show me something stellar after being around for two
months. The rift between the show's defenders and detractors is only
going to widen at this rate.
