So this experiment was a spectacular failure. It gave me trouble from the beginning. #cookingathome

I made them using the cake pop method: bake a cake, mash it up with frosting to form a "dough", pack dough into the mold, then coat the unmolded duck in a sweet layer that will harden.

I had trouble coating the ducks, crumbs got into the icing and I took so long, the icing needed to be thinned out part way (which I did badly). I can even out the colour and hide the crumbs with another coat of icing, however, I think these are already too sweet; the taste won't be improved by adding more sugar.

Attempts to mold the ducks without frosting were largely unsuccessful, so I need to find ways to reduce the sugar content of both the frosting and the icing. This will be a challenge since the icing is basically sugar dissolved in a small amount of liquid.

These were made with: Chocolate cake, American buttercream frosting, Orange glaze.
