Chaliapin Steak Don

It made for a tasty meal. The onions/sauce worked well with the rice. The steak was pretty tender, although I have no idea if the onion marinade had anything to do with that or if it was all due to me and the back of my cleaver.

CHANGES I MADE:
I don't keep wine at home so I deglazed the pan with just water; it doesn't add any flavour but it works. Corn starch was substituted for potato starch as the thickener. I also served this on plain white rice because I don't have pickled plum paste in my kitchen. Lastly, I omitted the green onions because I didn't bother chopping them.

As far as I know, this recipe was developed for the manga. No one has tried to replicate it for YouTube, though some redditers have posted step by step pictures online:

The comic panel containing the recipe can be viewed here - http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/shokugekinosoma/images/9/9f/Chaliapin_Steak_Don_recipe_manga.png

Someone has transcribed it with slightly different wording here - http://shokugekinosoma.wikia.com/wiki/Chaliapin_Steak_Don

Here's a video showing how to make Chaliapin Steak, which is what the manga recipe is based on - https://youtu.be/dgHx0zA_dS4

Pork Kakuni Don: slow stewed pork belly mixed with rice @LeModernJap #lemodernjapanesecuisine. The pork belly was good, but the rice could be a bit softer. I made it for dinner last My first attempt at tamagoyaki. I'm quite happy with the flavour, which has the right amount of sweetness for me. It isn't the least bit presentable but I'm sure I'll improve with practise. #cookingat
