What was going on all year, exactly? Watkins had 128 targets as a rookie WR. You're comparing him to what is probably the greatest rookie WR of all time, and a guy who on a game-by-game basis, was one of the best in the league this year. Watkins was not the most used WR in the league, but he got a ton of targets.

To put the number into context, that's just above Randall Cobb and Deandre Hopkins, and just below TY Hilton and Anquan Boldin. It's a pretty high usage rate overall, and this is for a rookie WR--though a few guys performed well as rookies this year, that's typically very rare for the position, even often for high draft picks. Watkins had more rookie yards than essentially any current top WR excluding AJ Green (and obviously this year's rookies).
