#MadokaMagica ep6: this is up there w/ the revelations behind the Matrix and Sweeney Todd. And a hell of an oversight by Kyubey. #anime
What episode three did with brutality, this episode does with subtlety. In
essence, they're either already dead (which gives what Homura said last episode
much more relevance and power) or they're basically trapped in their soul gem w/
no body to return to. It's a hell of a thing to not mention, or for a young
girl to realize. Even the hardcore hunter Kyoko didn't know and was hammered by
that truth. It did seem like Homura knew though. She immediately hauled ass
after that soul gem.
Aside from those last few great minutes, we see that Sayaka is incredibly in
over her head. Even just starting she's behind the eight ball. Kyoko's much
more experienced and stronger and is coming directly after her head. Their
complete polar opposite philosophies don't help anything either.
It appears to me that Homura is almost as informed as Kyubey, it makes me wonder
several things. What did she wish for; how long she has she been a magical
girl; what's so special about this new witch that is descending upon the city
soon, what are Homura's goals; and why the hell is Madoka some bloody special?
And I'm seriously wondering how long this idea has been percolating inside the
creator's mind because this whole set up is brilliant and deliciously
entertaining. I hope that what I'm witnessing eventually earns its place and
becomes a classic.
