Last night I traded some knowledge for some art. Gary is a local artisan and shop owner keen to see how i go about making my knives sharp. I offered to teach him if he wouldn't mind sitting for some portraits. Some great stories shared, drawings done and we ended the night with a sharp knife. Thanks again.

The bench is slowly filling with experiments as I collect stories of the town and materials of the place. I am feeling very thankful that i can still be true to my values of utilising recycled or discarded timber. There is plenty to grab, some of this beautiful timber was on its way to be fire wood. I am all too happy to step in the way of that.

This is my carving bench for the next month, and I have already made some friends who have given me some beautiful Tasmanian timber off cuts. I wouldn't want to be chopping down trees, especially in a place where the forests are so old but these are discarded from the milling industry. Saved by a keen eye and handed to me with a smile and a promise for more today. Can't believe this place.

It was great to have some sunshine today to finish this little portrait. I tried a few new techniques with this one. Very happy with how they worked out, especially the roughed out hair with the colours of the old timber still showing.

Almost finished...again! I don't usually rework pieces but this little guy got some surface damage early last year and i have delayed giving it the time to finish it up, only touching on it here and there. Yesterday however it was time. Such a nice piece of huon pine. Happy to be done

Growth - 2018 Australian oak stabilised with resin on a brass and jarrah base. All timber is recycled.

Very happy to deliver this piece today. 'The Lost Hermit' is a piece from a few years ago, and this is a new cast comissoned for a private setting. WE'VE GOT IT! We just received an email from Immigration with the grant of our temporary partner visa.
