I keep hearing this but there isn't any evidence for it. All studies show is that children with parents who aren't present (so they don't beat, but they also don't punish, correct, or otherwise instruct/discipline in any way, be it because they are bad parents or because they are working 3 jobs trying to pay the bills) are worse than children who have parents who care about their discipline.
