“When one teaches, two learn”. Have a nice weekend! Another week of training done. Time to relax and get back to it on Monday! Seeee ya! 50 years ago today, the most famous high jumper in the world, Dick Fosbury, won the 1968 Olympic Games with his now famous ‘Fosbury Flop’, changing the event for ever.
The first times Fosbury used his technique in competitions, he got laughed at, because it looked funny. The name ‘Flop’, wasn’t meant as a compliment. After his winning jump in Mexico, the sentiment changed.
At the Olympic Games in Munich four years later, 28 of the 40 jumpers used the Fosbury Flop. Another eight years later 13 of the 16 finalists used it.
Walking around @tsvbayer04_official you can still run into several old high jumpers performing the old school Straddle technique, but every high jumper now (including me as you can see) is taught the Fosbury Flop.
So remember, no matter how stupid something looks, and how many people make fun of you: if it works, it’s not stupid! (And can potentially take over the world).
