How I Spent My Memorial Day
My Aunt Rose is in her 80s and bending over to do the gardening isn't so easy for her. I don't usually spend a lot of time on Pinterest, but I saw a palette garden on someone's page and thought if I could elevate it using 5 gallon buckets, it could be a garden my aunt could easily maintain. So Memorial Day I woke up early, made a Home Depot/Harbor Freight run, came home and got out the power tools. I added a sheet of plywood on the bottom, 1x4's on the sides, and lined the holes with mesh so the water would run ot but the dirt would stay in place. Nine hours later, her garden was done. We have tomatoes, cucumbers, romaine lettuce, green peppers, and even strawberries. The soil bed is pretty shallow, so hopefully everything will get along together. I think the strawberries and the cukes might be a problem because they're creepers, they don't grow straight up. But anyways I'll post more pics later this summer.
