Hij staat bekend als vrouwenfluisteraar maar speciaal voor Tooth Tales schreef Jan Heemskerk over zijn vaardigheden als tandenvader. Hier een voorproefje: de rest van het verhaal kun je lezen via de link in bio. "Of het echt ooit zo is gebeurd, weet ik niet meer, maar in mijn herinnering bond mijn vader een touwtje rond onwillige melktandjes, maakte het andere eind met veel ceremonieel vast aan de deurknop, telde tot drie, en smeet de deur dicht. Geen gefriemel, geen gewrik, niet tutten: gewoon die deur dichtsmijten en knappe tand die dan nog in je mond bleef zitten. Het klinkt misschien eng, maar voor ons kinderen had dat ritueel juist iets vertrouwenwekkends, zelfverzekerds – alsof mijn vader echt wist wat hij deed, een echte vakman was in de kunst van het melktanden trekken... Ik nam mij voor later ook zo’n tandenvader te worden. En zo gebeurde: ik sta tegenwoordig onder de kinderen in de wijde omgeving bekend als ‘de man die je met zijn blote klauwen van je melkgebit afhelpt’. Een legende, mag je wel zeggen. Hoe ik het doe? Ik zeg tegen het kind: ‘Wil je echt van die tand af? Nu meteen?’ En voor ze goed en wel hebben kunnen nadenken of bang worden, pak ik de melktand tussen de nagel van duim en wijsvinger, vlak achter het randje waar de wortel begint, en trek hem er met een stevig rukje uit. Het geheim is: grip en snelheid. Je moet die tand onwrikbaar beethebben en het moet voorbij zijn voor het kind in de gaten heeft wat er gebeurt."

Ik krijg veel vragen over m'n verrukkelijke tandjes! Of ze verguld zijn (nee, ze zijn van massief goud of zilver) of het originele melktandje retour komt (ja tuurlijk, ik ben niet de tandenfee) en of je korting krijgt, als je van hetzelfde tandje twee of meer ineens besteld (mais oui!!) At one time or another, all of us have been visited by the tooth fairy. So, it should come as no surprise that somewhere along the line, Tooth Fairy Day was born. The tooth fairy herself (or himself; as the verdict is still out on whether this spirit is male or female) has been around since at least the Middle Ages although the exact origins are still unknown. In fact, the fairy may have just been a means to calm a child that was undergoing the strange experience of losing a tooth (after all, we have all been there). Still, Tooth Fairy day is a date that is designed to pay homage to this generous spirit that is known to leave treats or coins underneath our pillow. Interestingly enough, the exact date of celebration is under conjecture; some claiming it falls in February while others state that it is held in August.
