Son #2 (10) is a big fan of the new M1 Garand. Pretty sure he’d shoot the whole clip.
Short video of rough turning on the #polelathe. Gouge in one hand and camera in the other while treadling.
Making a double batch of cinnamon rolls for tomorrow’s breakfast. The ball will rise overnight in the cooler.
Let’s see if this works: water jug vs. 5.56 as a movie. Taken with the EOS-60D & 300mm lens.
Here’s a Bessel function animation for @TwoWheelNeil. A drumhead is as close as I get to a water droplet for now.
And now, German pancake for breakfast.
Used my new headlight for the bike ride last night. Trail looks a lot different in the dark.
A galoot asked what files I used in building the mitre plane, so here’s a pic.
Mitre plane works on my shooting board and is more comfortable than the #6. Good thing; this is why I built it.
Sapele end grain shavings in 4/4 stock. Not bad.
Fat Scotch Ale goes well with homemade pizza.
Plane sole now flat except for a small hollow, and the mouth is open just enough to take face grain shavings.
Okay, bluing and filing, since it’s not flat enough to lap yet.
Mitre plane now has a wedge installed. Might need to thin it a bit more, but it’s not set fully.
Apparently the kids have been practicing their stemming technique in the hallway.
Front infill screwed in, toe of the sole rounded, and top chamfered. Wedge stock on left.
Front infill shaped and shellacked. Hope it fits.
Everclear in an old Tabasco bottle is very handy for dropping on a rag or adding to your shellac rubber.
Progress on the mitre plane. Bed is fitted and ready for riveting, and I'm working on the bun shape.
Well, it turns out that I was wrong, thankfully…just planing the bed closer to final thickness was enough!
Well, this totally sucks. Geometry of fitting the infill is not working out. Split the infill or pull the bridge?
Shaping the rear infill, first with a bowsaw for the rough arc. Now to rasp and file.
Always fun to see the colors in freshly cut cocobolo. It'll be brown soon.
Potential infill blocks. All cocobolo, except leftmost which is East Indian rosewood.
